26 Nov ***GIFT DAY*** 26.11.2017 – Under 5 and Families Outreach Minister – PLEASE READ!
GIFT DAY – SUNDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2017
To find out HOW and WHY you should consider giving towards this important appeal please read our information leaflet by clicking the link below.
WHY DO WE NEED THIS POST?
There are more demands on the time of Mandy, the Children’s and Youth Minister, including the vital work of safeguarding. We no longer have Sheila Samuels, in charge of outreach ministry to adults and children, including Messy Church and Holiday Club. The Parish of Walton on Thames has 26,000 people with 18% of the population under 14.
WHAT VALUE WILL THE UNDER 5’S AND FAMILIES OUTREACH MINISTER ADD?
1 Young Families
Working closely with Caroline, our curate in charge of Toddler Praise, this would increase our capacity to provide groups for toddlers. We also want to pastor young families, recognising the pressures on families with young children and create a supportive network of parents.
2 Outreach to more needy families
This would take over the outreach portfolio for Children and families left by Sheila Samuels including Messy Church and Holiday Club.
3 Oversee Sunday School at St John’s
The Sunday school at St John’s relies on church members. Recent in house training is helping more parents to become involved is encouraging, but there is a need for longer term support and direction.
4 Youth age 11 upwards
This would release Mandy to focus on age 6 upwards and to have time to put into young people age 11 upwards. To re-establish Youth in the church
We are absolutely committed to keeping our children safe in all church activities. This would share the ever increasing burden of safeguarding with Mandy Watts.
WHAT RESOURCES DO WE CURRENTLY HAVE?
We have two full time Vicars (currently paid 1.4 salaries between them).
We have a part-time curate (unpaid).
We have one Children and Youth Minister ( FT paid).
We have one part-time Administrator.
We no longer have a part time Church Army evangelist responsible for outreach work with adults and children.
As a parish we are grossly understaffed.
The minimum we need to offer the job to a candidate is £27,500 for one year.
Ideally, we raise the first two years £55,000.
This amounts to:
£400 per year for 70 families or
£33 per month or
£7.70 per week (that’s 2 coffees in a Coffee shop)

FURTHER INFORMATION WALTON ON THAMES FINANCIAL POSITION
As a church, our outgoings are £360,000 a year.
£113,500 of this goes to Guildford Diocese paying for central support, curates’ training, one vicar’s salary and Bishops. The amount we give to the Diocese is calculated on the relative prosperity of the parish and the number of people who attend church. On top of this, we pay all salaries and running costs.
Average giving in the Diocese is £22 per family per week. The average giving in our parish is very low by comparison,at £9 per week. This severely restricts the ministry we can do as a church.
From our regular giving, we cannot afford this role.
Please do not reduce your regular giving. To learn more about our regular giving scheme please pick up a ‘Giving’ leaflet.
