Confirmations 2025

DIFFERENT SHADES OF BLUE WITH A DOVE ALSO IN BLUE AND THE WORDS CONFIRMATION 2025

On Sunday 22nd June we had five candidates who were Confirmed by Bishop Andrew Watson at St Peter’s Church in Hersham. It was a wonderful occasion and a real joy to celebrate this next step in their journey to knowing Jesus.

The last year has been so amazing, the love and grace that God has shown me is something I would never have believed possible. My life has changed for the better in nearly every way, and it is all because of faith.

I am being confirmed because I want to show my commitment to our God and our church which has enriched my life in too many ways to count.

Zoe

I have been following Jesus since I was a child but there was a period of my life where I wandered from the path, despite that God continued to watch over me and protect me. He has since helped me to grow in faith and love.

My life has been changed in so many ways for the better through God. Confirmation is important to me as I want to dedicate my life to following Jesus and never wander again.

When I was around four my nan started to take me to church. It was so fun, I went to Sunday school, and the teachers were helpful and made it exciting to learn about the Bible. But then covid happened when I was around 9 or 10, which meant I couldn’t go to church which made me sad but I didn’t want to stop so when the opportunity came, I jumped at it to go.

But then I got into football and netball which took up most of my Sundays so I don’t go to church as often but I still go to The Way on a Monday evening where we play games and talk about questions on God and the Bible.

Also, one amazing way I am closer to God is from going to Spring Harvest. I think it is a great way to meet new people who are interested in the same thing you are and you learn so much at Spring Harvest that you might not learn in a regular church. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to get closer to God or just anyone in general. This is why I wanted to get confirmed.

Growing up, I often felt like there wasn’t much on offer for me at church as a young person, and because of that, I didn’t always come regularly. But over time, I’ve felt drawn back. Coming regularly to the 4 has helped me reconnect and I’ve started to feel at home in church life.

When the opportunity came up last year to reaffirm my baptismal vows, it felt like a natural next step. I was baptised as a baby at St Mary’s and being able to reaffirm those promises at St John’s where I spent a lot of time growing up made it even more meaningful. That moment marked the beginning of a deeper journey for me.

Since then, I’ve continued to grow in faith and in my understanding of what it means to follow Jesus. Doing the Alpha course was a turning point, it was through Alpha that I came to truly know Jesus. Not just know about Him but know Him as my friend and my guide.

I’ve also joined a small group where we read the Bible, pray and support one another in our faith. Being part of a loving church community has helped me feel more confident in talking about my faith. Trusting and listening to God is something I’m learning to do more and more and with each step, it gets a little easier.

Although I didn’t always feel connected to church when I was younger, there were moments when God felt close. I remember feeling like I belonged during youth with Alex, and when I went to a CPAS camp in 2019, one of the leaders shared something personal that really resonated with me. It was one of those moments when God became undeniably real.

Now, as I prepare for confirmation, I know this is another step forward in a relationship that has become central to my life. Jesus is not distant or theoretical to me, He is the heart of my life and the reason I want to keep growing in faith, loving others and sharing the good news of who He is.

I’m really looking forward to going to university in September and finding a church where I can continue my Christian journey and I can’t wait to see what God might have instore for me!

Lily

I was baptised at St Marys church when I was a baby but have only recently been going to church regularly with my mum, dad, granny, and little sisters.

I have learned that there are millions of unanswered questions. Like does heaven exist and is God real? I have also learned that all the unanswered questions that I have is called faith. Faith is my trust or confidence in someone or something, including God. Sometimes not having the answers is scary, but most of the time it’s just frustrating.

When you stop putting so much energy into being afraid you become braver, and you can then put that energy into taking on life’s obstacles and can also help other people who are struggling with their own obstacles or unanswered questions.
