Harvest

Last year, with the help of supporters, the Foodbank provided emergency food support to 3,096 adults and 2,372 children across our local community. To meet this need, they distributed more than 29 metric tonnes of food.

Sadly, as the cost of living continues to put pressure on households, particularly in our borough, increasing numbers of people are struggling to make ends meet. The Foodbank is now supporting more than 200 people each week across its different locations.

At the same time, food stocks are running worryingly low. Current stocks stand at just 1.7 tonnes – a record low.

Behind these numbers are real people and families.

The Foodbank tells us…

“‘Sarah’ came to the Foodbank after losing her job and struggling to cover essential household bills. With no money left for food, she was referred to us for emergency support.

“Thanks to donations from local churches, schools and community groups, we were able to provide food, practical help and a listening ear during a very difficult time.”

As we celebrate Harvest on Sunday 4th October, we have an opportunity to give thanks for all that we have and to share with those in our community who are facing difficult circumstances. We’ll be collecting food and essential items for the Foodbank at our Harvest services. Even a few items can make a difference and by giving together we can help replenish those urgently needed stocks and ensure the Foodbank can continue to be there for people like Sarah.

The Foodbank particularly needs the following items:

Rice & instant noodles

Tinned tomatoes

Tinned spaghetti

Jam & peanut butter

Fruit juice (long life)

Ketchup & mayo

Puddings & custard

Shaving gel/ foam

Laundry pods

Cleaning sprays

Kitchen roll

Please bring your donations with you to church on Sunday 4th October.

10.30 am @ St Mary’s

4.00 pm @ St John’s

Thank you for your generosity and for helping us put our faith into action by caring for our neighbours in practical ways.
