HYMN
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast,
And our eternal home.
Under the shadow of Thy throne
Thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is Thine arm alone,
And our defence is sure.
Before the hills in order stood,
Or earth received her frame,
From everlasting Thou art God,
To endless years the same.
A thousand ages in Thy sight
Are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night
Before the rising sun.
O God, our help in ages past,
Our hope for years to come,
Be Thou our guard while troubles last,
And our eternal home.
Isaac Watts
READING from 2 Corinthians 5:14-21
Read by Mr J Clark from Heathside Walton
The apostle Paul writes: Jesus’s love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do. Our firm decision is to work from this focused centre: One man died for everyone. That puts everyone in the same boat. He included everyone in his death so that everyone could also be included in his life, a resurrection life, a far better life than people ever lived on their own. Because of this decision we don’t evaluate people by what they have or how they look. We looked at Jesus, the Messiah, that way once and got it all wrong, as you know. We certainly don’t look at him that way anymore. Now we look inside, and what we see is that anyone united with Jesus gets a fresh start, is created new. The old life is gone; a new life emerges! Look at it! All this comes from the God who settled the relationship between us and him, and then called us to settle our relationships with each other. God put the world square with himself through Jesus, giving the world a fresh start by offering forgiveness of sins. God has given us the task of telling everyone what he is doing. We’re Jesus’s representatives. God uses us to persuade men and women to drop their differences and enter into God’s work of making things right between them. We’re speaking for Jesus himself now: Become friends with God; he’s already a friend with you. How? you ask. In Jesus. God put the wrong on him who never did anything wrong, so we could be put right with God.

HYMN
Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Chorus
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Chorus
PRAYERS for our town, nation and world
After each prayer, please join in with the following response
Leader: Lord, in your mercy
All: Hear our prayer
As our Saviour taught us, so we pray
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we
forgive those who sin against us. Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours now and forever. Amen.
REMEMBERING
An older person (OP) says: They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
A younger person (YP) replies: At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them
Together, we all say We will remember them
THE LAST POST
TWO MINUTES’ SILENCE
THE REVEILLE
THE LAYING OF WREATHS – Commentary by Rev Pete Matthew
COMMITMENT
OP: When you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we gave our today.
Leader: Let us commit ourselves to responsible living and faithful service.
YP: Will you strive for all that makes for peace?
All: We will
OP: Will you seek to heal the wounds of war?
All: We will
YP: Will you work for a just future for all humanity?
All: We will
Merciful God, we offer to you the fears in us that have not yet been cast out by love: may we accept the hope you have placed in the hearts of all people, and live lives of justice, courage and mercy; through Jesus Christ. Amen
