Dementia Awareness Week #DAW2017

This week is Dementia Awareness Week.

Mon 15th May – Sun 21st May 2017.

In the UK, there are about 800,000 people with dementia; it is estimated that around 400,000 people have dementia but do not know it. By raising awareness about this condition, it is hoped that more people will be diagnosed earlier, giving more time for them to come to terms with future symptoms.

The midweek service at St John’s welcomes a variety of people of all ages including some of the residents and their carers from a local care home and today was no different. We enjoyed a Said Communion with special prayers led by Maggie one of our Pastoral Assistants followed by coffee and some fabulous blue cup cakes.

The Diocese Community Engagement Team have a useful read on their blog which can be found here.
