Christmas Lunch on Jesus 2024
Christmas Lunch on Jesus is an initiative run by South West London
churches, including Refreshand others in Molesey, that provides a hamper of fresh food containing everything a family needs for the Christmas meal, delivered to the door. Referrals are taken from many of our local schools, children centres, domestic abuse services as well as others who are working closely with families in need. Last year, well over 1,000 hampers were packed and delivered, 153 of which were in Elmbridge, feeding 600 or so people in our area. The project only works because hundreds of local people volunteer and donate. It’s really simple to get involved and great fun too! This year, we expect 150-170 referrals for Elmbridge. Each hamper costs £35, therefore, together, our local churches are looking to raise about £6,000 to cover the costs for our area. As well as donations, a big need is for people to deliver the hampers. Deliveries are made in pairs and all on the same day (Saturday 21st December).Please see below for how to be part of this great project that blesses so many families in need across our community.
Packing:Packing will take place at Tolworth Recreation Centre on Friday 20th December – simply sign up online (see the link below) and turn up on the day. This is a great event to bring a friend or neighbour to – or even some work colleagues. There are jobs that are physically demanding and ones which are much gentler too! The atmosphere is fantastic – Christmas music plays and everyone really gets into the spirit of what the season is all about and what a difference these hampers will make to those who receive them……. make sure to wear your Christmas jumper!
Delivery: Deliveries for our area will take place on Saturday 21st December from approx. 8:30am to midday. To take part you’ll need a car and willingness to be a friendly face. You will be provided with all the information nearer the time so that you know exactly what to do, and who you will be delivering with (for everyone’s safety deliveries are always made in pairs). Where possible the delivery organisers try to put a ‘newbie’ with someone who has done it before.

Please consider giving towards the cost of the project, which needs to raise approximately £6,000 for Elmbridge hampers and £35,000-£40,000 overall. Each hamper this year will cost around £35 – any amount you can contribute, no matter how small, makes a difference.

Without the Holy Spirit we can do nothing – please pray that those receiving the hampers will be blessed and encouraged, that the organising team will be guided in wise decisions and have good communication, that those making referrals will be guided to the right families, that the volunteers will come and find life as they give their time, and that all the costs will be covered.
