The Story Behind The Song… May 2017

Everlasting Arms

Having just returned from Spring Harvest it is impossible not to be affected by the worship music. Lou Fellingham was the worship leader for the time we were all there.  She was singing songs from her new album ‘This changes Everything’. The one that stood out for me was Everlasting Arms which is based on a hymn by Annie J Flint. The song is about Grace, strength and the everlasting presence of God and is based on James 4:6 ‘But he gives us more grace. That is why scripture says: ‘God opposes the proud but shows favour to the humble.’’ (NIV) and Isaiah 40:28-31 ‘The Lord is the everlasting God the creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.’

The reassuring words speak for themselves….

Berenice Page

He lavishes grace as our burdens grow greater

He sends us more strength as our labours increase

To added afflictions He offers more mercy

To multiplied trials He multiplies peace

When we have exhausted our store of endurance

When our strength has failed and the day is half done

When we’ve reached the end of our earthy resources

Our father’s full giving is only begun

Our father’s full giving is only begun

So lean hard

Learn Hard

Lean on the everlasting arms

So learn hard

Lean hard

Lean on the everlasting arms

Lean on the everlasting arms

His love has no limits His grace has no measure

His power has no boundary that’s known unto men

For out of His infinite riches in Jesus

He giveth and giveth and giveth again

You lead me beside still waters

Your goodness restores my soul

I know that you will never leave me

I know that you won’t let go

The promises of God

To listen…

I hope you enjoy Everlasting Arms as much I do!
